Based on the evaluations from two very successful series on fiction writing, Rachel Seiffert will deliver two linked sessions on non-fiction writing.

Non-fiction out-sells fiction in bookshops up and down the country, and can be as creative, immersive and exciting to read and to write as any story.  However, this engagement is not always easy to reflect in the primary school classroom.  This course will inspire a creative approach to non-fiction writing sessions for KS2.  The process outlined is underpinned by rich text choices and exciting outcomes.  Over the two sessions, participants will be guided through the design of a scheme of learning, and will also take away lesson structures to try with their own classes.

This series of two sessions, 14th and 28th March 2018, is suitable for KS2 class teachers, NQTs, RQTs, English Leads, ITT trainees.

Rachel has taught creative writing at Goldsmiths College, Glasgow University and the Arvon Foundation, amongst others, and has delivered a wide range of workshops in schools, ranging from inner-London comprehensives to Wellington College in Berkshire. She is currently Writer in Residence at Haseltine Primary School.

From Haseltine Primary School’s recent Ofsted report:

‘The writer in residence has supported teachers in Year 5 and 6 to enhance their skills in the teaching of writing. Teachers use high-quality literature as a stimulus and follow a teaching sequence that supports pupils’ sustained writing.[…] This has led to significant improvement in pupils’ writing.’
