ETAL is committed to offering an outstanding range of professional learning opportunities, leadership development, school led initial teacher training, school-to-school support and research opportunities.

Teaching Schools and their alliances are at the forefront of the change towards a school-led system. Teaching schools are outstanding schools that work with others to provide high-quality training and development to new and experienced school staff. They are part of the government’s plan to give schools a central role in raising standards by developing a self-improving and sustainable school-led system. ETAL was one of the first 100 schools in the UK to be designated in 2011.

School Direct

The 2019 UCAS Teacher Training application cycle will open on Tuesday 9 October 2018. If you are interested in training to become a primary teacher go to our School Direct page to find out more. ETAL has a range of primary schools in our alliance who are offering School Direct placements. We recommend that you register with Get Into Teaching to receive tailored advice and information about teacher training and help preparing a strong application to teacher training.

Alliance Schools and Partners

Quotes from School Direct trainees

“The sense of belonging is something that underpins the School Direct experience.
As a School Direct trainee I have access to the full spectrum of school life!”
“You are able to extend yourself into the school more than you would on a traditional placement
and therefore build stronger relationships with pupils and teachers that will help to
improve your teaching!”
